My Mom has collected seashells and rocks for as long as I can remember. She can "hunt" for those little treasures for hours and hours. Seriously, hours. When I was young my family always went off-roading with our neighbors at the river. If the Jeeps stopped moving my mom hopped out with her bucket and shovel and went off looking for rocks. Being kids we were always curious about what she was looking for so occasionally we would help her. One trip the kids were all helping Mom and the Jeeps left us... like drove away and didn't know we weren't there... {I guess my Dad thought we all hopped in different Jeeps} No one noticed we were missing until their next stop... we are talking hours. We were in the Arizona desert... no jackets, no water, no food... nothing but a bucket, shovel, and some rocks. We were a little worried but Mom kept us in whatever shade we could find as we looked for more rocks and waited for someone to realize we were missing. {obviously, Dad was in big trouble when he came back}
Anyway let me get back on track here... Mom finally used some of her collection and made this beauty. Amazing, right? She even hung it up on the wall by herself. {big pat on the back Mom!} I love that I share the love of crafting with her... I am sure that she is the reason why I craft.
Here is a close up... talk about meticulous and time consuming!
Now if we could get her to use some of those rocks she has been saving...

Wow!!!! I remember your mom making jewelry in her craft room for hours when we were little.

Super Duper Wow! That is too cool - we collect rocks from every trip we make...just gave me an idea of what to do with them!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!
Wow - that project took a lot of patience. I also loved the story that went with it ... as a kid I was forgotten in a grocery store, much better than being forgotten in a desert :)
ReplyDeleteThis creation is beautiful! I've never seen anything like it! Enjoyed your story:) Thanks for stopping by my blog via the blog hop. I'm following you now, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I come from a long line of crafters, and it is a great heritage.
ReplyDeleteI love the wall hanging. I am always collecting rocks and stuff like that. One year in Florida I collected a ton, and I mean a ton of sanddollars I found on the beaches. It was after a few hurricanes so there were more for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI made Christmas Tree ornaments out of them. It's amazing what we learn from our parents! My mom was a baker {the professional type} and did needlepoint.

What a beautiful object of art. Learning beautiful things about the beautiful woman your mother is. Makes me love her, even more. -- Glenda
